A group of people parked in Ormond Beach Thursday were lucky not to have been seriously wounded after an angry young man fired several shots into their vehicle, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives arrested Dylan Preis, 18, who had had a "recent falling out with the driver" as the shooter. Pries confessed to the shooting and admitted to using his grandmother's 9mm handgun.

Dylan Preis, 18, was charged with firing into an occupied vehicle on Thursday in Ormond Beach.

The shooting occurred late on Independence Day outside a home on George Anderson Street.

Deputies reported that the bullet holes in the loaded vehicle showed the occupants narrowly missed getting shot in the head or chest. Detectives recovered the gun, ammunition, and shell casings at the scene.

Preis was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, four counts of firing into a vehicle, and one count of criminal mischief. He was also charged with violating his juvenile probation.

He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he was being held with no bond Sunday morning. No further information was available.
