Supporting LGBTQIA2+ Communities

LGBTQIA2+ campus life is ever-increasing! Student involvement at Å®ÓÅapp began with the Gender & Sexualities Awareness (now Sexuality & Gender Acceptance (SAGA)) club, chartered in the 1990s. In the early 2000s, the LGBTQ+ Ally program started to train employees to be allies and create safe zones for LGBTQ+ students throughout Å®ÓÅappD. Today, the LGBTQ+ Association for Student Success and Equity (LASSE) works to provide support to, education about, and advocacy for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, classified professionals, and administrators on campus. In 2021, the first ever Lavender Graduation at Å®ÓÅapp was hosted to celebrate graduates within the LASSE Mentor Program, also piloted during the 2020-2021 academic year. Å®ÓÅapp continues to work to create more equitable campus environments for LGBTQ+ students. We hope you will get involved!

Rainbow Learning Community

The Rainbow Learning Community (RLC) is a student cohort model designed to increase graduation and transfer success rates for our LGBTQIA2+ students and allies by implementing an LGBTQIA2+ focused curriculum and targeted support. Students who join will take english and guidance courses together.

Campus LGBTQIA2+ Resources

We list our names here as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual, Two-Spirit (LGBTQIA2+) and ally students, staff, faculty, and administrators at Riverside City College. We know that coming out is a personal decision that is made continually over one's lifetime. We understand that it can be an empowering and rewarding process, but that it also comes with varying levels of risk to one's emotional and physical safety, as well as financial and basic needs security. We acknowledge that all of our experiences are real and valid, whether or not we can or choose to be "out and proud" at this time.

No matter where you are on your journey, we will welcome you, listen to you, work with you, support you, advocate for you, and connect you with any resources you may need. We are committed to dismantling the homophobia, transphobia, and other systemic oppressions that marginalize LGBTQIA2+ people, and actively working toward a more inclusive and equitable campus environment.

Ally Trainings are offered at least once a semester at Å®ÓÅapp, as well as at Moreno Valley College and Norco College. In this training, participants learn about issues faced in LGBTQIA2+ communities, as well as resources and tools needed to become better allies to people with marginalized genders and sexualities.

LASSE aims to unify, empower, and create a brave, inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ students, classified professionals, faculty, and administrators of diverse genders, races, ages, sexes, sexualities, religions, economic statuses, and abilities at Å®ÓÅapp. LASSE is committed to providing a support system and fostering community for a historically underrepresented population by implementing educational events and workshops, mentorship programs, providing resources and advocating for institutional changes. LASSE works to facilitate conversations about gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation in order to help address the needs of the LGBTQIA2+ communities on campus.

is intended to provide some general information about LGBTQ+ topics, as well as information and resources for allyship.

The LASSE Mentor Program aims to provide additional educational and personal support to LGBTQIA2+ students by pairing them with a trained Å®ÓÅapp faculty or staff mentor. The LASSE Mentor Program is a collaborative, safe, and inclusive environment that fosters growth and self-confidence among both mentors and mentees.

Together we create a loving and supportive family for the Queer/LGBTQIA+ community and supporters. We are dedicated to club members and student achievement in the academic, social, political and personal aspects of their lives. Join our club and learn about yourself, others and the world. Come to a meeting and check us out.

Meetings are held Thursday 12:00 - 1:00pm viz Zoom
